ESDC published some updates regarding the LMIA application processing
On May 15, 2020, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) released and updated instructions for hiring temporary workers through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. For instance, as a result of the impact of the COVID-19 on the unemployment rate (which is considered 6% or above across all provinces), ESDC will not process applications for LMIA for some NOCs in the Accommodation, Food Services and Retail Trade sectors. ESDC has also updated the list of NOCs eligible for the 10-day expedited processing. The preference is given to 43 occupations in the agriculture, agri-food, and trucking sectors.
