The number of Hong Kong residents who immigrated to Canada last year dropped 28%
Statistics from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada show that the number of Hong Kong residents who immigrated to Canada last year dropped 28% from that of 2019. Further analysis shows that IRCC processed a total of 1,224 study permit applications from Hong Kong residents in 2018, which increased slightly to 1,353 in 2019 and increased significantly to 2,147 in 2020. Meanwhile, the number of Hong Kong immigrants taking citizenship oaths decreased by 61 percent.
