Canada extended travel restrictions until August 31

On July 31, 2020, Canada extended travel restrictions until August 31. Thus, the restrictive measures were extended for one more month. The terms of the new extension were published in a new federal government Order in Council that regulates the entry of foreign nationals into Canada from the US and overseas. The new document also states that all travel ban exceptions remain in effect until further notice. This allows immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, as well as some new immigrants, foreign workers and international students, to be able to come to Canada. Canada imposed travel restrictions on March 18. Initially, the restrictions were in effect until June 30, but then the government extended them until July 31. According to the government, border closures and general quarantines have allowed Canada to flatten the curve, thus the travel restrictions are justified. Recall that the land border with the United States will remain closed until August 21. The decision to extend or remove restrictions will be made in mid-August.
