Canada to speed up the processing of immigration applications for victims of the Beirut explosion

Canadian Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne recently stated that at the request of the Lebanese immigrant community, the Canadian government will facilitate the immigration of Beirut victims to Canada. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Immigration have established a joint working group for this purpose. Champagne said that the members of the working group include officials from the Department of Immigration and Canadian diplomats from the embassy in Lebanon. Although the current task of the team is only to expedite the immigration applications of victims of the explosion, it does not rule out accepting immigration applications from other Lebanese applicants in the future. In addition, the Canadian government is also considering longer-term assistance plans for Lebanon. Officials are currently discussing with grain exporters in western Canada how to help Lebanon improve food security.
