How can a child born outside of Canada get citizenship?

According to IRCC, no matter where the child was born, Canadian parents can automatically pass on citizenship to their children. Traditionally, if one of the parents is Canadian when the child is born, the child can enjoy the perks as a Canadian. The same applies to a child of a Canadian who was born outside of Canada. In order for the child to be recognized for citizenship, the parents must help them apply for a certificate of citizenship. According to IRCC, the cost of applying for a Canadian citizenship certificate is about $75 and it takes about 5 months to process. The Immigration Department will accept the birth record and documents confirming the Canadian parents’ names.
