Immigration to B.C. fell 111% in the first half of the year

Figures show that with the continued impact of the pandemic, net immigration to B.C. has become negative. Immigration to B.C. in the first half of this year plummeted by 111% compared to the first half of last year. This adds to concerns in the local rental housing sector. According to BC statistics in the second quarter, immigrants to Canada experienced negative growth of 3,553, compared with a net increase of 19,600 immigrants in the same period last year. In the first quarter of 2020, B.C. had a net immigration increase of 6,024 newcomers, down 50% from the first quarter of 2019, as COVID-19 travel restrictions kicked in.
