In 2020, Canada issued 104,485 work permits in the International Mobility Program

The International Mobility Program (IMP) allows Canadian employers to hire temporary foreign workers without obtaining a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). Work permits issued under the IMP may be open or closed, depending on the specific program and stream. Such work permits can be issued for individuals who fall into regulations of free trade agreements signed by Canada, several categories of Entrepreneurs or Self-Employed Persons, Exchange Academics, Spouses of skilled workers and international students, intra-company transfers and some other categories. In 2019, Canada issued 306,590 IMP work permits. This year, we can face the effect of COVID-19 that is the main reason for a drastic drop in numbers. In the first half of 2020, IRCC issued work permits to only 104,485 foreign workers under the International Mobility Program
