IRCC allows stranded temporary workers from Trinidad and Tobago to get an Open Work Permit

On December 16, 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) introduced a temporary public policy to help workers from Trinidad and Tobago who are stuck in Canada and cannot return home. As a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, Trinidad and Tobago had implemented very strict rules prohibiting such temporary workers to fly back. In response to this situation, IRCC allowed stranded agricultural workers to apply for Open Work Permits for the duration of six months. In the meantime, Canada will try to resolve this issue with the government of Trinidad and Tobago. This temporary policy will remain in effect until February 12, 2021.
