IRCC increased the number of citizenship ceremonies

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has dramatically boosted the number of new citizens in the first quarter of 2022, as it tackles the immigration backlog. According to official data, more than 95,000 people became citizens in the first three months of the year, compared to 136,604 people throughout 2021. At this rate, Canada could have over 380,000 new citizens by 2022. The IRCC still had 399,325 citizenship applications in its queue of 2.1 million permanent and temporary residency applications. This year, Canada intends to have even more citizenship events and welcome even more new citizens, thanks to the planned modernization and expansion of services for those interested in becoming Canadians.
