IRCC updated instructions for assessing the ability to establish in Canada for refugees

On February 26, 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated program delivery instructions for assessing the applicants’ ability to establish themselves in Canada during the process eligibility assessment. While the main focus of the IRCC in assessing refugee admission is the need for protection, the ability to establish themselves in the country still remains a factor. There are four main factors to be considered in each case: resourcefulness that assists with integration, presence of relatives or sponsors in the resettlement community, the potential for employment, and ability to learn the official languages. No other factors are to be included in the eligibility assessment.
