IRCC updated the COVID-19 Study permits regulations

On July 20, 2020, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated the regulations for study permits applications and travel restrictions for international students. For instance, IRCC updated definitions of non-optional and non-discretionary purposes of travel for students. If the student is applying for a study permit extension and his/her passport will expire within the next 6 months, IRCC will request a new passport from the applicant. However, if the extension is required for a duration of fewer than 6 months, it can be processed as normal. The department also explained the regulations on distance learning and study permit issuance, as well as eligibility for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP).
