New immigrants choose Canada’s small cities instead of metropolises

Despite major Canadian metropolises have been popular destinations for immigrants for a long time, small and medium Canadian cities are now beginning to attract more overseas newcomers as the pressure of living in big cities increases. A study conducted between 2013 and 2019 by David Campbell at Ryerson University showed that the number of immigrants who settled in smaller cities increased by 45%, while only 9% settled in the four largest cities in Canada. Smaller cities, especially cities in the four Atlantic provinces, are slowly gaining popularity as destinations for immigration.
