New requirements for BC employers seeking foreign workers starts next week

Starting from December 15, 2020, BC employers who wish to hire foreign workers under the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) program will have to obtain the licence from the provincial government in addition to securing positive LMIA from Service Canada. This also includes employers wishing to hire caregivers under the Home Support Worker Pilot or the Home Child Care Provider Pilot. The new regulations in BC are similar to those adopted in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. The provincial government hopes this step will reduce the level of abuse towards foreign workers. The registration certificates will be valid for three years.
