Newfoundland and Labrador to invest $700,000 in Economic Immigration

On January 11, 2021, the Minister of Immigration, Skills and Labour of Newfoundland and Labrador Gerry Byrne announced plans of the provincial government to invest in the development of economic immigration. For instance, Newfoundland and Labrador is going to invest over $600,000 in the creation of the Economic Immigration Ideas Lab, which will be located at the Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce Innovation Centre. The new institution will gather representatives of the government and private sectors, as well as the wider public to develop new approaches aimed at increase of immigration to the province. Additional funding of $100,000 from the provincial authorities will allow the opening of a certified CELPIP testing site at the Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus. Those initiatives go in line with the goal to reach 2,500 new permanent residents annually by 2022.
