Ottawa to support Open Door Society in training newcomers to find employment in Canada

The Open Door Society, an organization that provides assistance to refugees and new immigrants, received funding from the federal government’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy to conduct a 14-week employment training program for new immigrants to help them find employment in a new country. The training program will provide participants with eight-week employment preparation training in among other things letter-writing, interview skills and workplace culture. After the first eight weeks, participants will have a six-week on-the-job internship to acquire Canadian work experience. Willow Lorga of the Open Door Society said that for young refugees or immigrants, six weeks of work experience is very helpful in their future endeavour to find employment in Canada.
