Ottawa will continue to issue permanent residency to out-of-status construction workers

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will continue to enable out-of-status construction workers and their family members residing in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to obtain permanent resident status. The temporary public policy for out-of-status construction workers has been extended and will expire on January 2, 2023, or once 500 principal applicants receive permanent residence (PR). In addition, under the new policy, the eligibility requirements regarding language, previous work authorization, and tax filling have been removed, making it easier for workers to apply for PR. In 2021, only 52 out-of-status construction workers obtained PR under this policy.
