Protest for the resumption of citizenship tests held in Toronto

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, citizenship tests and many interviews have been stopped. A protest was held at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto demanding the resumption of citizenship tests and progress on citizenship applications. When citizenship tests were cancelled, everything was shutting down, and that was normal. However, over the months, applicants wanted just one update on what is happening. People are incurring real losses from being in “mental limbo.” People sometimes think, “It’s just a passport,” a convenience, but that is not true. Many people cannot get jobs that require higher security clearance without citizenship, and some people cannot travel. There are 85,000 people waiting for citizenship, according to IRCC data.
