The Open Work Permit Pilot for sponsored spouses program expires next month

The spousal open work permit pilot program that was started in December 2014 is going to end on July 31, 2020. Spouses and common-law partners of Canadians who are applying for permanent residence have the option to stay in Canada legally with an open work permit. The foreign spouses of Canadians who are in Canada but do not have a work permit may still be eligible to apply for a work permit before the program ends. The pilot has been extended several times but so far, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) did not announce the new extension.
