Following media reports about purported mass refusals for Pakistani students wishing to get a Canadian study permit, the High Commissioner of Pakistan intervened with the Canadian government. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Pakistan is the third-largest beneficiary of study permits in South Asia. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick updated the lists of Designated Employers in the AIPP

Nova Scotia has updated the list of provincial employers designated to participate in the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program (AIPP). In November 2020, Nova Scotia added 23 new employers. Since the last update, the total number of its designated employers reached is 1,354 companies. As for New Brunswick, the province designated nine new employers in November and removed five. Due to international travel restrictions and flight cancellations, many immigrants were unable to enter Canada before their authorization expired. Yet asking the immigration department to reissue the authorization is a difficult thing to do. ESDC updated the processing time for LMIA applications

Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) has updated the processing times for the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) applications under various streams. Based on statistics from different processing centres, the current average LMIA processing times are:

Global Talent Stream – 12 business days
Agricultural stream – 13 business days
Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program – 9 business days
Permanent residence stream – 22 business days
In-home caregivers – 14 business days
High-wage stream – 35 business days
Low-wage stream – 41 business days
